The 5,242-hectare Carara National Park on Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast has an amazing diversity of flora and fauna. Named after the indigenous Huetar word for “crocodile”, this national park is home to several ecosystems, such as marshlands, lagoons, and tropical forests. Monkeys, crocodiles, armadillos, peccaries, waterfowl, opossums, sloths, boas, agoutis, white tail deer and ocelots can be found here, as well as one of the largest populations of wild Scarlet Macaws in Costa Rica. Get up-close with American crocodiles of all sizes, and observe an abundance of beautiful exotic birds on the Crocodile River Tour on the Tarcoles River. Enjoy spectacular rainforest scenery and cruise through the wide river and mangrove forest canals.
